Expertise: Methane emissions, atmospheric measurements, local and global emissions inventories

Background:

As an international senior scientist, Stefan (he/him) is part of Environmental Defense Fund's Office of Chief Scientist team. His research focuses on methane emissions from local to global scales. As Methane Science Studies Programme Manager at UNEP’s International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO), Stefan co-leads the scientific coordination of measurement studies to characterize anthropogenic methane emission sources. Before joining Environmental Defense Fund, Stefan was a Research Scientist at the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Global Monitoring Division and the University of Colorado’s Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences in the US. Stefan holds a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering and a M.Sc. in Technology Management from the University of Stuttgart, Germany, and earned his Ph.D. in Engineering and Public Policy at the Carnegie Melon University in Pittsburgh, US. Stefan speaks German and English.
